USA ROLLER DERBY ROAD TRIP – DAY 8: Rolling Sturgis

7th August 2013: Day 8

Woke up nice n late, then went down to the track to meet Noush, we all then headed to Wallmart to buy supplies (our hosts supplied us with a huge cooler) bought plenty of weird n wonderful goods, like my sausages infused with 4 cheeses!

Back to camp n we set up our awesomely huge tents and big blow up mattresses… We camp in comfort here!

Finally time came for us to attempt the World record for the longest continuous bout! Non-stop bouting, no beaks and only 3 time outs! We started in the sunshine and skated while the sun went down, we saw a huge fire that bikers were riding through, we had a rainbow, slight rain and some great fans. Finally we ended when the head ref decided it too dangerous to skate did to it being too darks. Final time was 2hrs, 31mins and 52 seconds! It was amazing… Really really amazing, skating outside with bikes roaring past, bands playing in the background… Actually it was just majorly cool! Plus, one of the girls on my team was a founding member of the Texas Rollergirls!! The team that kick started our generation of roller derby. (Oh they had made me captain too, a real honour).

Shattered, but really happy, we went to see Rob Zombie and we arrived just in time for me to dance to More Human Than Human! (Me & my friend Lucy danced to that song every Friday night for years.

Me and Noushy stood on a picnic table to watch and you could see all the bikes lined up, all the way to the front of the stage… They revved their engines instead of cheering!! How amazing is that!!!!

Finally, me & Gab had a much needed shower as the encore was happening, what a way to shower! What an amazing day!!!!
